Definitions

These definitions represent our use of the terms used in the ASL Project. There may be other quite legitimate definitions with small (or not so small) differences. We share our definition so readers know precisely how the term is being used in our resources.

Glymphatic System

The glymphatic system is a recently discovered macroscopic waste clearance system that utilizes a unique system of perivascular channels to promote efficient elimination of soluble proteins and metabolites from the central nervous system,  including beta amyloid plaques thought to be instrumental in Alzheimer's Disease.

Healthspan

 The period of life we spend in good health, free from the chronic diseases and disabilities commonly associated with aging.

Inflammageing

Age-related increase in the levels of pro-inflammatory markers in blood and tissues which are strong risk factors for multiple diseases associated with aging such as: as: cardiovascular diseases, Type 2 diabetes, cancer, depression, dementia, osteoporosis, sarcopenia (muscle loss), and chronic kidney disease.

Zone Two Training

Any activity where it becomes hard to complete a sentence but possible to keep doing what you're doing for an extended time period. Activities can range from a gym workout to a waling, running or dancing.
