Why Brain First Habits

Primers from Trusted Experts

Trusted Experts Intro

We choose Dr. Judson Brewer as our lead expert for habit change. Specializing in breaking habits, he makes me laugh while sharing practical, doable methods for habit change. His work integrates mindfulness with the neuroscience of reward based learning for habit formation.

While Brewer's work effectively embodies a tiny habits approach (though he does not use these words) his methods are more foundational: in building a foundational habit of mindfulness, we are building trait that leads to many other positive impacts on one's life.  ExampleMany people using Brewer's methods to reduce anxiety reported weight loss; others focused on smoking cessation reported improvements in emotional regulation and decreased anxiety.

The work of BJ Fogg and James Clear complements this approach with an explicit “tiny habits” focus offering detail on how to select, size, and nurture the tiny habits you aspire to create.

Check out Quick Bytes for an introduction to each. You may find just one works for you or like me, you start combining.
